About us
Urban Choice is a pilot choice-based lettings scheme that operates across Birmingham.
Birmingham City Council has been developing choice-based lettings as part of its overall business transformation programme to improve customer access to services. Birmingham is the largest local authority in Europe and we have been working hard to ensure the scheme we operate is both suitable and appropriate to your needs. We are also part of a national initiative offering choice-based lettings and so we are including recent best practice and government guidance as part of our choice-based lettings scheme. This is important because Birmingham City Council and its RSL partners are rolling out choice-based lettings across all of Birmingham in March 2009.
Our Housing Association partners have also been undergoing changes: several have merged; they have also expanded the areas offering choice-based lettings from the original scheme boundaries in north western Birmingham and are now offering properties across the city. The to plan to go citywide in March 2009
The scheme currently includes homes owned by Birmingham City Council, Family Housing Association and Midland Heart.
Urban Choice is also committed to preventing and detecting all fraud.
It is an offence under the Forgery and Counterfeiting Act 1981 to hold or present false documents such as birth certificates, passports, bank statements and so on, with a view to obtaining goods or services such as temporary accommodation or permanent housing from Birmingham City Council. If we detect fraud, we will take legal action against you.
